DTF, a printing technique to mark your textiles
DTF (Direct to Film) printing is an innovative textile transfer technique that offers an alternative to more traditional methods like screen printing, vinyl transfer, or direct-to-fabric (DTG) printing.
Thanks to DTF transfers, you can mark 90% of textile materials and ensure that the marking will last over time.
Here's an overview of what DTF printing is and its main features:
How DTF Printing Works
- Image preparation: It all starts with creating a digital image using graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. The image is then printed upside down on a special polyethylene (PET) film.
- Ink application: Printing uses special water-based inks, suitable for DTF printing. These inks are applied to the film in a process similar to inkjet printers.
- Adding Fusion Powder: After printing, an adhesive powder is applied to the still wet ink. This powder is usually polyurethane and is used to adhere the print to the fabric during transfer.
- Film Baking: The printed film is passed through an oven or under a heat press to melt the powder and attach the ink to the film, preparing for transfer.
At coque-sublimation, we offer to print your DTF transfers in our workshop .
Personalize your textiles with DTF transfers
- Position your transfer on the fabric to be marked and press for 15 seconds at 145°C. Under the effect of heat, the ink and adhesive transfer from the film to the textile.
- Let your textile or garment cool flat without removing the PET film.
- Film Removal: Once the film has cooled, it is removed, leaving the image permanently printed on the textile.
- Press your garment again to ensure that the marking holds even after numerous washings in the washing machine.
Advantages of DTF Printing
- Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of textiles, including difficult fabrics like nylon, polyester, and cotton, without requiring specific fabric pretreatment.
- Print Quality: Produces high quality prints with vibrant colors and good durability, able to withstand multiple washes.
- Simplicity and Speed: Simpler and faster than methods like screen printing, especially for small series or complex designs.
Uses of DTF Printing
This technique is particularly appreciated for the production of small to medium batches of personalized clothing, prototypes, or for companies that wish to offer a wide range of designs without investing in large stocks.
In conclusion, DTF printing is a powerful technology for the field of textile personalization, offering flexibility, quality, and efficiency. This is a great option for those looking to produce custom textiles with high-quality colors and details.
